It is with the heaviest of hearts and torn souls that we share our beloved Patrick (Pat) Martin Cayen, 65 years young, passed away on October 4th, 2024 after a valiant battle with Interstitial Lung Disease. He was overjoyed to have his children arrive on time to be by his side to share their love with each other before his passing. His Beautiful Irish Fairy, Kat, laid by his side during his final breaths holding his umbrella.
The proudest of dads to Stefanie Cayen (Brad), Samantha Cayen (Justin) and Aaran Pollock (Asia). Each of his children blessed Pat with his greatest joys, his grandchildren Joshua, Ryan, Patricia, Jake, Georgia, Jonathan, CJ, and his bugaboo Aaira.
Pat will always be remembered for his unconditional want and need to help everyone around him, his contagious smile, amazing sense of humour, boisterous laugh and dedication to his family and friends.
Pat loved his “people” with every fibre of his being. He had an amazing forever, “friends who are family” connection with Joe and JoAnne Bondy, and Yader and Ilena Rivas. Pat has many others who have always supported and loved him without question and were just a phone call away to be by his side. Pat’s family will always be thankful for each one of them.
Pat is predeceased by his parents Marcel and Patricia Cayen, his older brothers Allen and Ray and his sister Christina. He is survived by his beloved sister Darlene Cayen-Putan (Yuris) who since Pat was born, has always considered him her baby boy. Pat also has his extended family including his brothers-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and cousins who will always hold special memories with him including motorcycle rides, trips to the firehall, and time at Camp.
Throughout his short but fulfilled life, he retired after 35 exemplary years serving his community as a firefighter, paramedic, coroner, dog catcher and many other boards and electoral positions. This left his life open to pursue his true love by following in his “fathers-footsteps” and becoming an amazing handyman/tinkerer. There was nothing that he couldn’t or wouldn’t try to fix.
As per his wishes, Pat has been cremated and there will be no service. Instead, a party to top all parties will be held in his honour and will be announced to his “family.”
Pat was eternally grateful to his exceptional medical staff. Dr Mura, Dr Barra, and Dr Laba who in combination kept him healthy and able to see his family grow and flourish. Additionally, the entire staff of Bluewater Health deserves kudos for their phenomenal professionalism throughout his entire treatment. Dr Kim and his amazing, caring, and compassionate team helped everyone of us, including Pat, get through his last day on his terms with dignity.
Our beloved is now playing ball at the water’s edge of his camp at Lake Panache with his best friend and confidant, his Nellie girl.
We will always love you, miss you, and want you to “have good sleep, have good dreams”
