Surrounded by his loving wife and family on December 18, 2023 at home in Wyoming, John Ernest Button passed away at the age of 67. John and Sharlet were married for 36 years. He was the proud father to Carrie, Jason and his wife Kim and Alex and his wife Dannah and the adoring grandfather to, Cassie and Tess Elviage, Linkin Button, and Josh, Jordan and Joey. John had three loving brothers, Roy (Lori), Dave (the late Cheryl), and Jim (the late Jette), and will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, who loved him dearly; Sherry (Michael) Harris, Chris Griffor, the late Charlene Westrick, Sandra (the late Harry) Crum, Sharon (Artie) Leombruno, Shirley (Dave) Courey, James (Anita) Griffor, Crystal (Jeff) Baker, the late Preston Griffor and the late James and Marge Griffor. He will be fondly remembered by his 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Trucking was a way of life for John. He was a proud owner and operator who loved everything from the open road to keeping his “pride and joy” spotless. Even though he would often enlist his kids’ labour to polish his wheels, spend hours washing and drying making sure no water spots appeared, meticulously cleaning the sock lint from the bunk and using Q-Tip’s to clean the vent dust, these tasks were about more than just a clean truck. It was about instilling pride in a job well done, teaching to pay attention to detail, spending quality time and creating memories with his real pride and joy…his children. The love he had for his children was second only to his beloved, Sharlet. He chose her. He chose to spend his life, have children, share all the precious moments, all of the first’s and all of the last’s, with Sharlet; the love of his life.

John’s favourite place in the world was his workshop, full of the smells and sounds that make up core memories: freshly sawn wood, the occasional beer, coffee, the clinking of metal on metal and the crackle of a woodstove. He would often be found there, tinkering on projects big and small. He could always find a way to make something work. It was a gathering place for this social butterfly. A welcoming place where friends could always drop in unannounced and feel welcome.
We know that John is in his happy place, tinkering away, patiently waiting for the day when we are all together once more, where there is no pain or sadness or suffering, but always a feeling of warmth and peace.

Friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate John’s life on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 4-7pm at the Wyoming Legion Br. 388, 493 Erie St. Wyoming.
