Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit in Sarnia, James Gordon Bate passed away at the young age of 70. Beloved husband of Nadiia McLean for 12 beautiful years. Loving father of Christy MacDonald (Steve Wagar), Jeremy (Kim) Bate, and stepdaughter Dasha (Dima) Chuhlov. Cherished grandfather of Ethan, Braedan, Mykala, Adam, and Scarlett. Dear brother of Gary (the late Nancy) Bate and Rosanna Stevens (Robert). Much loved son of the late Alvin and Dorothy Bate. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was a strong, independent and proud man who spent many years owning his own printing business, as well as, working in various supervisory roles, including at Fiberglass and Vari-Form. A kind soul who made friends wherever he went, Jim will be remembered for his easy-going nature, diplomacy and zest for life. He has always had a profound love for teaching, nature, wildlife and is well known for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening and even Scuba Diving. Eventually, Jim even became a Scuba Instructor. He will be truly missed by those who shared his passion for the outdoors and fondly remembered by his friends and family. Though taken from us far too soon, Jim’s patience, understanding, wisdom and sense of humor will live on inside us forever. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, no services will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia and District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
