Peacefully at Twin Lakes Terrace on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, Beryl Kathleen Abbott passed away at the age of 90. Cherished mother of Karl, John, Jill (Jim Wales), and the late Ruth (Muriel Deschenes). Treasured grandmother of Chris, Benji, Sarah-Lynn, Luciano, Nicholas, Sean and Max. Treasured great-grandmother of Oliver, Zachary, Josephine, Logan and Lilly. Dear friend of Ron and Steve who looked after her for many years. Born in Yorkshire, England, near Kingston upon Hull, Beryl was the only child of the late Samuel and Doris Walker. She attended post secondary schooling at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. Married to Mark, they immigrated to Canada in 1957. Divorce took place and Beryl continued to raise the children on her own. A piano teacher for over 25 years, she received her Master of Arts in Systematic Musicology from Western University in London, ON in 1992, preceded by her teaching certificate from the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, ON in 1970. She enjoyed teaching and had many piano students in the Sarnia area. Shortly after her retirement from her self-employed teaching, she was able to donate her two fine pianos to the Royal Conservatory in Toronto to assist other students, one in the memory of her daughter Ruth and the latest one in her own memory. She was a founding board member of the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts here in Sarnia, and enjoyed arts to the fullest. Many thanks to Twin Lakes Terrace 2nd Floor for their exceptional care over the past six years. Cremation has taken place. Upon her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
