The City of Sarnia is looking to the public as it works to draft an Economic Development Master Plan.

This plan “is crucial for shaping Sarnia’s future,” said Kelly Provost, Economic Development Director. “This initiative will not only identify opportunities for growth and innovation over the coming years, but also ensure that our community's voice is heard in the process.”

The plan will answer key questions about the current economic landscape, future trends and opportunities, and define a vision for future economic development efforts. It will provide recommendations to help guide future decisions related to how the City can support local business, attract investment, and create an environment for business diversification, attraction, and retention.

In August, City Council approved a Strategic Plan which outlines their vision and priorities for the future of the city. Economic resilience was identified as one of four key priorities.

“Engaging with residents and local businesses will provide invaluable insights that will guide our strategic direction, fostering a vibrant economy that seeks to benefit everyone in Sarnia,” said Provost.

The public can have their say through an online survey. This survey asks what your vision for the future of Sarnia is and how it can grow economically.  The survey will remain open until 4:30 p.m. on December 2.

As well, the project team will host two public meetings, one in-person, and one virtually, providing the opportunity for participants to learn more, ask questions and provide their feedback.

The in-person meeting is scheduled for November 26 at Clearwater Arena, 1400 Wellington Rd., in the lower hall from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. No registration is required.

Registration for the online open house on December 3 at 7 p.m. is available on the project page www.speakupsarnia.ca/EDMP

The City has retained UrbanMetrics Inc as the project consultant for development of the master plan.
