If you want to have a say on some key issues affecting Sarnia, now is your time to speak up.

Police are inviting the public to attend a Town Hall Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Royal SCITS Academy to ask questions and hear directly from Sarnia Police Services on many concerns affecting residents and businesses.

"It's an opportunity to be in the public and with the public, and engage the community and to provide some updates about very important key topics that we know the public wants to learn about, wants to hear more about,” says Marika Sylvain Groendyk, corporate communications officer for Sarnia Police Services.

“We have information to share and then also just to get that other side of the conversation as well,” she adds.

Issues expected to be addressed at the Town Hall according to the media release include, the response to encampments (including Rainbow Park), catch and release, the impacts of decriminalization and the challenges for those who live and work in the downtown core.

Groendyk says the response to the Town Hall so far has been positive with plans to live stream the event for those who cannot attend.

“There is a big discussion about people wanting to be there, and a lot of especially small downtown business owners encouraging their peers to attend. So we would certainly love to have a large turnout,” says Groendyk.

In a release, Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis, said “the Sarnia Police Service recognizes the importance of working with our community toward viable solutions, built upon open and candid communication.  It is important that we make ourselves available to answer questions, provide facts, and share some of the challenges we face as police”

Groendyk encourages people to come out to ask their questions but they are also accepting questions and topics at [email protected]

"We would really like the public to send any specifics they would like to address at the meeting to the email," says Groendyk.

With the support of The Show with David Burrows the event will be live-streamed on The Show with David Burrows's Facebook and YouTube pages.
