The Rotary Club of Sarnia is set to host its annual pancake breakfast to coincide with the start of the historic, 100th Mackinac sailboat race next month.
The breakfast, a longstanding tradition spanning more than 40 years, will take place the morning of Saturday, July 20 under the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward.
“It’s a tremendous event,” Rotary Club president Mark Taylor said, pointing to more than 2,000 breakfasts served each year by some 50 volunteers, raising between $10,000 and $15,000.
“It’s been a tradition in our community for over 40 years, and that’s something to celebrate.”
The 2024 breakfast coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Mackinac — the longest running freshwater sailboat race in the world.
Because of the centennial anniversary, it’s expected that 330 boats will be participating, all of which will be passing by the Pancake Breakfast venue, officials noted.
This year’s breakfast is continuing the tradition of going green — attendees are invited to bring their own bottled water or cups, and the Club is encouraging people to bring their own plates and cutlery.
The full breakfast includes freshly made pancakes and sausages, along with a choice of coffee, tea, or juice (coffee and tea provided for free by McDonald’s).
The event runs outdoors, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Advance tickets are available online at www.rotarysarnia.com.
