Students with the St. Clair Catholic school board are updating the community on the progress of their new, $21 million elementary school through their own ‘Action News Team.’
The first report by the team includes coverage of the recent ground blessing ceremony held at the site of the future Gregory A. Hogan Catholic School.
“This is an exciting project that will not only keep our communities informed about the work at these sites, but will also provide a permanent historical record of these projects,” said director of education Scott Johnson, pointing to the student-led initiative that includes a video presented to the board of trustees this week.
The ‘St. Clair Action News’ report includes coverage and voiceover by Liam Scott, in addition to coverage of Chatham’s new $19.5 million elementary school.
“In Sarnia, the blessing and smudge ceremony was repeated as the Gregory A. Hogan Catholic school family gathered on the rapids parkway site of the new elementary school to ask God’s blessing of the ground,” Liam reported, of the Oct. 5 event.
“The new Gregory A. Hogan school is an investment of $21.8 million dollars and includes a new 659-pupil place elementary school, with four-and-a-half million dollars in funding for a five room childcare centre.
“Also included in the funding is a $200,000 donation fro the Hogan family to support an expanded 900 square-foot community room in the new school,” Scott reported.
“Construction at both school sites is in its early stages, with the new Gregory A. Hogan Catholic school, expected to open December 2023.”
