The City of Sarnia’s 12th annual Accessibility Awards are now open for nominations, celebrating local individuals, businesses, and organizations committed to accessibility and inclusivity for people with disabilities. Hosted by the Sarnia Accessibility Advisory Committee (SAAC), the awards spotlight community leaders who have made meaningful contributions to a more inclusive city.

“Inclusivity lifts us all up,” said SAAC Chair Debbie Draganits. “We want to recognize those who have led the way toward a future accessible to all community members. If you know a person or organization making a difference in accessibility, we want to hear from you.”

Nominations are being accepted in the following five categories:

  2. Prelude to Excellence (Small Business, fewer than 30 employees): Celebrates small businesses that have fostered accessibility and inclusivity, either as a whole or through outstanding employees.

  3. Creating Opportunities for an Accessible Community: Honours individuals or organizations leading inclusive programming for people with disabilities.

  4. Outstanding Service in Social Services: Recognizes those in the social services sector who go above and beyond in support of people with disabilities.

  5. Kevin Schenk Legacy Award: Celebrates a local resident with a disability who has dedicated their life to championing a more inclusive community.
