Lambton College is hosting another Mega Job Fair on Thursday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair is organized by Lambton College Co-op & Career Services in partnership with Community Employment Services. It aims to provide students, graduates, and the general public with access to over 60 potential employers.
“We have companies from healthcare, policing, trades, hospitality, finance, and accounting. We have general labor positions, customer service roles, retail—you name it. We really do have something for everyone,” says Kyle Walker, a Job Developer with Co-op & Career Services at Lambton College.
The event will take place at the college’s Athletics & Fitness Complex, located at 1457 London Road. Walker advises job seekers to dress for success, as if they were going to an interview. “That means dressing appropriately, bringing resumes, and doing some research ahead of time so they know a little bit about the companies they're looking to speak with,” he explains.
While many businesses from the Sarnia-Lambton area will participate, companies from across Canada will also be seeking new hires. “Our students and graduates can and do go anywhere in Canada when they're looking for experiential learning and graduate opportunities. We’ve built partnerships with employers of all sizes across various industries,” Walker adds.
Interest from employers is typically high for this event. “When we host an event like this, we typically get quite a bit of interest from employers who want to participate and have their brand represented on campus,” says Walker.
Although not every company will conduct on-the-spot interviews, participants can book time slots to help manage potential congestion. To further reduce foot traffic, organizers have implemented a system allowing job seekers to go online and choose a time that works best for them. “Rather than having to speak over other job seekers and navigate a busy space, we've essentially broken it down into several smaller job fairs, giving them more time to connect with employers without waiting in long lines like they did in the past,” Walker explains.
The Lambton College Mega Job Fair is funded in part by the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and the Windsor Regional Employment Network.
