The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) is sponsoring a new award at the Chatham-Kent Black Excellence Awards, recognizing educators who have made significant contributions to students and communities.

The Black Excellence in Education award will honor a Black educator—current or retired LKDSB staff—who demonstrates excellence in their profession while fostering cultural awareness and dismantling systemic barriers. Nominees are celebrated for their efforts to create meaningful change for Black students and communities through innovative teaching, mentorship, advocacy, or community engagement.

The award aligns with LKDSB’s Strategic Plan, which included the completion of a comprehensive Human Resources Equity Audit by a consultant. The audit reinforced the Board’s commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students and staff.

The recipient of the Black Excellence in Education award will be announced at the Chatham-Kent Black Excellence Awards, scheduled for March 1, 2025, at the Retro Suites in Chatham. Nominations are open until February 1, 2025, and submissions can be made online at https://forms.office.com/r/nDYxMWF6FY.
