Lambton County has new leadership.

Kevin Marriott was elected the 159th warden by his peers on county council last week. He defeated Lambton Shores Mayor Bill Weber, who held the top job the past eight years, and Sarnia Councillor Brian White.

Marriott is a cash crop farmer and nine-year mayor of Enniskillen Township.

The warden is Lambton County’s top elected official, oversees a $220-million budget, attends various community events, and represents the county to senior government.

Point Edward Mayor Bev Hand is the new deputy warden. She defeated Sarnia Councillor Mike Stark and Warwick Township Mayor Jackie Rombouts for the job, which had been held by Marriott.

Hand is the daughter of Barb Horner, who in 1984 became the county’s first female warden.
