A new stand-up comedy showcase is launching in Sarnia. Homebrew Comedy, founded by local comedian Kirk Hicks, debuts on Saturday, February 22 at Imperial City Brew House.

Hicks, who has been active in Toronto’s comedy scene, created the event to bring professional stand-up to Sarnia and foster local talent. “I wanted a showcase of both great local stand-ups and great national comedians,” he said. “Having met many great comedians living and working in Toronto, I wanted to help bring that to Sarnia while also fostering new talent here.”

The lineup features headliner Faisal Butt, a Toronto-based comedian known for his appearances at JFL 42 and as a SiriusXM Top Comic winner. Also performing are Derek Adams (Toronto/Calgary), Alex Weber (Wyoming), and Hicks as host.

The event is presented in partnership with Helping Hearts Village, a Sarnia-based nonprofit founded by Shaun Evans.

Hicks hopes this debut performance will lead to future events, establishing Homebrew Comedy as a regular part of Sarnia’s entertainment scene. “This is our first show at Imperial, and we hope it’s the start of a great partnership. Huge shout-out to Rina Barker for booking and believing in the show. We look to continue these shows, bringing great stand-up comedy to Sarnia and supporting various charities.”

Tickets are $20 in advance (available Jan. 1 to Feb. 21) and $25 at the door on the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased online at Revelree.ca.
