A Grade 4 teacher at St. Anne elementary school has won a Prime Minister’s Award for teaching excellence.

Loredana Barbato was recognized for her leadership and exemplary teaching, and for equipping her students with the skills to succeed in an innovation-driven world.

The Certificate of Achievement comes with $1,000, a pin and letter from the Prime Minister.

"If you were to ask St. Anne students their favourite thing about Mrs. Barbato, many would say her amazing personality. She is positive, kind, energetic and always looking for new opportunities to enrich our student body, one of her students wrote about her.

The federal government said Barbato was recognized, in part, for collaborating with other educators, leading a teacher workshop on computer coding, and helping develop a leadership program.

She also heads her school’s Social Justice Club, where students learn about issues and activism.
