Stretching between Lambton College and downtown Sarnia, the Midtown Trail serves as a multi-use route for walking and cycling. Once overlooked and underused, the corridor has become the focus of ongoing revitalization efforts aimed at creating a more accessible and connected city.
The cleanup is being organized by nuSarnia, a local collective focused on re-imagining public spaces through community-led action. The group works to promote welcoming streets, vibrant public places, and stronger neighbourhood connections. The Midtown Trail has become a key focus of its recent community-led efforts.
“The Midtown Trail will become a vibrant, multi-use path that everyone knows, loves, and uses to connect with the nearby businesses,” said Tristan Bassett, Executive Director of nuSarnia. “It will be a place where everyone feels safe and included, fostering community, well-being, and active transportation.”
Organizers say keeping the trail clean is essential to preserving the work already done and encouraging continued public use.
“This Earth Day, the Midtown Trail clean-up is a powerful reminder that small actions lead to big changes,” Bassett said. “By caring for our environment, we're building a brighter, more sustainable future for everyone who walks, bikes, or simply enjoys this shared space.”
The volunteer cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Finch Avenue pedestrian crosswalk. Gloves, garbage bags, litter pickers, water, and snacks will be provided. Residents of all ages are welcome to take part.
