Fans of CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries are in for a treat next week when retired Canadian astronaut and Sarnia native Chris Hadfield guest stars in an episode of the popular Canadian drama series.
“I was talking to Rob Carli who does the music for [the show] and he said ‘hey, we’ve had a couple other people on who aren’t normally actors, and if you’re interested, maybe we could get you into the Murdoch Mysteries,’” Hadfield said in a clip posted by the CBC. “Who would ever say no to that?”
Set in Toronto at the dawn of the 20th century, Murdoch Mysteries is a one-hour drama that explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch (played by Yannick Bisson), a methodical and dashing detective who pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders.
“Space suits are the most uncomfortable garment I’ve ever worn,” Hadfield said in the clip. “So wearing a vest and nice shirt from 1909 or 1010… child’s play.
“Look at this moustache,” he added with a laugh. “I’m obviously from that period.”
Hadfield, 63, joins the likes of comedian Colin Mochrie, Rush frontman Geddy Lee, Olympic medalist Andre De Grasse and even former Prime Minster Stephen Harper — who have all guest starred on the show.
The episode airs Monday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. on CBC and streaming for free on CBC Gem.
