An all-star line-up is set for the Bluewater Health Foundation’s annual Block Party, returning to Sarnia Sept. 6 and 7.
“We are overjoyed to once again be hosting the Block Party concert series featuring so many incredible Canadian bands and local acts,” executive director Kathy Alexander said of the all-ages annual concert held to support the hospital’s mental health and addictions services.
“Not only is it a super fun weekend of great music, it’s also supporting an important community cause.”
This year’s lineup at the Suncor Agora stage in Centennial Park kicks off Friday Sept. 6 with Windsor all-star band, The S'Aints, alongside local opening acts A Million Ghosts and Down River Band.
Headlining on Saturday, Sept. 7 are Niagara-based, 14-member funk band My Son the Hurricane and Mississauga rock and reggae band Ill Scarlett. Saturday’s local opener is celebrity comic-con band Action Figures.
“We are so grateful to the people of Sarnia-Lambton for their continuous support and helping to make the Block Party possible year after year,” Alexander said of the event, which, in the last eight years, the has raised more than $160,000.
Alexander added there’s been an increase in mental health and addictions related issues and diagnoses in the community.
Since its inception in 2016, the event has grown from a small, one-night venue to a two-day festival with a capacity of 2,500 guests each night.
The event also features local craft beer and other refreshments, food and artisans from across Lambton County.
Sponsors include the Carpenter’s Local 1256, Pembina, Blackburn Radio and Refined Fool.
