Big financial boost for oversized load corridor

A private college in Toronto is giving $4 million to the Sarnia-Lambton oversized load corridor.

A private college in Toronto is giving $4 million to the Sarnia-Lambton oversized load corridor.

The donation from Cestar College of Business, Health and Technology brings the money committed for the project close to the total estimate of $12-million.

In return, Sarnia has agreed to recognize the school’s generosity by naming a new docking facility planned for Sarnia Harbour the “Cestar Dock.”

“We truly hope our contribution helps to drive better outcomes for the city and the future of this area,” college president Hufeng Chen said in making the announcement.

The Oversized Load Corridor is a dedicated road route being created for the movement of large industrial components between local fabricating plants, industries, and Sarnia Harbour.

Removing signs, lights and other obstructions along the route is expected to generate jobs by making it easier and less expensive to move large, locally made manufactured goods.

The federal government is providing $6 million, Lambton County has committed $1.2 million, St. Clair Township $85,000, and the Sarnia Lambton Industrial Alliance $85,000 to complete the project over four years, with Sarnia covering the rest.

Cestar is a private career college founded in 2007. Eight years ago it began a relationship with Lambton College through which international post-secondary students are trained at Cestar’s Toronto campus.
