LETTER: Support for St. Clair Child and Youth Services

Letters to the editor

Dear Editor,

I was so sad to read about the growing staffing shortages in Ontario’s community health sector.  There is a wage gap exceeding $2 billion dollars between community health sector staff and their peers doing similar work for other organizations.  Many community staff members are leaving their positions because of this.

One agency facing serious staff shortages is Sarnia’s St. Clair Child and Youth Services.  Without enough staff, children’s needs can not be met in a timely fashion.  The longer help is delayed, the more serious the problems come.

I know from personal experience with my daughters, that St. Clair Child and use Services plays a vital role in helping children in crisis.

Hopefully, the Ontario Government will realize how important early intervention is for children’s mental health services and will eliminate the $2 billion-plus gap in wages.
