In response to the proposed affordable housing complex at Exmouth and Melrose Streets.
Dear Editor,
Why there? Why tear down a beautiful old church and a thriving business to build a six-story apartment building and townhouses on the corner of a small neighborhood block and a busy main street?
There will be a problem with traffic trying to get in and out of the complex if the main floor of the apartment building is supposed to be office space for support staff for the assisting residents.
There will be a problem with parking. There will not be enough parking for residents, office workers, support personnel, and visitors.
They say it's not for sheltering homeless people, that it is low income housing, but have you driven by any of the low income neighbourhoods and seen what's happened there.
Why not renovate the church for low-income apartments and find someone to build townhouses to mirror those to the west of the property.
It's not about 'not in my backyard' it's please don't destroy a beautiful neighborhood where some families have lived for 40 years or more!
