This year’s Ribfest is going to the dogs.

Canine Watersports of Canada intends to make a splash at the Centennial Park event with doggie dock-jumping demonstrations July 6 and 7.

“They jump into water and they grab stuff out of the air… they have a border collie that just about clears the pool,” said event chair Jack Struck, describing the 25-foot pool to be set-up in the park.

“You just have to see it.”

The 20th Sarnia Kinsmen Ribfest is a three-day affair running July 5 – 7 and features six professional ribbers serving up barbecue ribs and chicken in a variety of sauces and back-dropped by live music.

In addition to the “professional dog” athletes, nine midway rides will also be on site, said Struck.

“There’s one there that’s good for the teens. That’s one that swings around… and you get terribly sick,” he said with a laugh.

As well, 30 vendors are confirmed to attend the artisan craft show, Struck added.

A full slate of local and regional bands will take the stage July 5- 7. Admission is by donation until 6 p.m. all three days and $5 each after that.

All proceeds from Ribfest support more than 30 local charities and community groups, Struck said.
