Students at Sarnia’s King George VI Public School’s Kiwanis Builder’s Club wanted to give back to the community this holiday season — so they decided to run a food drive for the month of December.

The students, in the leadership program for grades 7 and 8, chose to donate to the River City Food Bank, said the learning commons and physical education teacher Derek Bouma.

More than 1,500 items were collected — ranging from hygiene products, canned food, pasta, and even a donation of dog and cat food from Ren’s Pet Supply.
