Film and food festival returns for 11th year In Forest

The Lambton Film and Food Festival returns to Forest’s Kineto Theatre this May

Get ready to eat, drink and enjoy some award winning cinema at the Kineto theatre in Forest.

The 11th annual Lambton Film and Food Festival kicks off Friday May 24 and runs through to Sunday with seven movies being shown over the three-day festival.

“There is something a little bit different with each film and we think they will appeal to a wide audience,” says Ruth Illman, a Kiwanis Club and festival committee member, adding, “It’s a great weekend in the country.”

Academy Award winner for Best Adapted screenplay ‘American Fiction’ opens the festival at 3 p.m. on Friday. Starring Academy Award nominees Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown, the film earned an outstanding 166 nominations from various academies throughout it’s awards season run.

Filling out the rest of the festival are music documentaries ‘Joan Baez: I am Noise’ and ‘The Stones & Brian Jones,’ a family film being shown on the Sunday, and some acclaimed dramas including ‘The Last Vermeer,’ ‘Percy’ and ‘The Great Escaper,’ which closes the festival on Sunday night.

There will be a Youth Film competition on the Thursday night, where winning films will be shown that were made by students across Lambton County with help from the Film In A Day workshop. The weekend will also see three street BBQs, an artisan market and kids partaking in a chalk art fest.

“The kids plan and prepare what they are going to draw, and they come downtown and draw it.

And we have all ages, the little nursery school kids all the way up to the secondary school kids,” says Illman.

Something different this year is the opening night gala which will be held at the Forest Curling and Social Club on Saturday May 11. Tickets are $75 and include a screening of ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ at the Kineto theatre with appetizers and a signature drink, followed by dinner and drinks at the curling and social club.

Tickets for the May 11 Gala and for individual festival films can be purchased ahead of time at Kineto.ca.
