Daniel Marr is the first recipient of the new Maynard and Rene Walker Family Scholarship in Point Edward.
The graduate of Bridgeview School and Great Lakes Secondary will receive $5,000 U.S. each year for the first two years of post-secondary education.
The scholarship, created by Mary Ellen Walker in memory or her parents, recognizes high school grades and contributions to the Village of Point Edward.
Marr said he plans to attend Lambton College this fall and study business administration, with an eye to starting his own business.
The volunteer, student council president and class valedictorian said he was honoured to be its first recipient.
“I’m pretty proud to call myself a Pointboy,” he said.
