Heath McCormick of the host Sarnia Golf and Country Club skipped his U.S. team to victory at an international tournament held in Sarnia featuring 20 teams from Ontario, the U.S. and Switzerland.

The four-day Huron Reprographics Oil Heritage Classic drew large crowds Oct. 27-30 and featured a triple knockout formula with eight teams advancing to the playoffs.

Team McCormick defeated Team Bice in an all-local quarterfinal before downing Team Higgs for the championship on the very last rock.

Heath McCormick lives in Sarnia and has dual Canadian-U.S. citizenship. He’s part of the United States High Performance Program for curling development and represents the U.S. at major bonspiels.

It was Team McCormick’s second cash spiel win of the year.

Other SGCC members who participated in the Classic included Mark and Steve Bice of Team Bice, Ryan LeDrew and Matt Mapletoft of Team LeDrew, Evan Lilly of Team Krell, Ian Parker and Mike Pruliere of Team Johnston and Brian Scott of Team Higgs.
