A block party is coming to Mitton Village this summer.
A group of area residents, with support from the Mitton Village Community Development Committee, are planning a one-day street festival on Aug. 24.
The event will be located in the municipal parking lot and a portion of Mitton Street, near the intersection known as Five Corners.
Getting people back out on the sidewalk and streets will help improve the neighbourhood’s safety and security, Sarnia Police Chief Norm Hansen told a recent committee meeting.
The grassroots group is fundraising to cover the cost of fencing, washrooms and entertainment.
City council has agreed to waive half the cost of the fees charged for a road closure, noise exemption and other requirements, saving the first-time festival $1,119.
