Sarnia has approved the proposed seniors’ housing project for the former St. Peter’s school.
Construction is expected to begin this spring on the 104-unit complex proposed by Sarnia-based Nelmar Developments, starting with the conversion of the two-storey school building into a 28-unit retirement home.
The home will feature one-and-two bedroom units, a wellness centre, fitness studio, library and dining room. What’s now a gymnasium with 20-foot ceilings will become a common space with multiple seating areas and a large fireplace, the developer says.
The project’s second phase will see a four-storey addition built with another 75 retirement units.
The 2.5-acre property is at 696 Oxford St.
