Sarnia’s Canatara Beach, seen on the right, was awarded “Blue Flag” status last week, meaning it meets the coveted international standard for water quality, management and safety.

Only two dozen other Canadian beaches have earned the tourist-friendly designation.

In the foreground is Lake Chipican, with Canatara Park and, at the top, the twin spans of the Blue Water Bridge to Port Huron, Michigan.

This photo is the first from a Centennial project The Journal has begun to capture Sarnia from the air.

It will culminate later this summer in a special aerial photography edition, which will be distributed free to 30,000 city households.
