Sarnia man duped by scammers

Published on

A Sarnia man in his 80s has been duped by the “injured son” phone scam.

A man claiming to be the victim’s son called to report he’d been in a car accident in Montreal and asked for money to cover the fine and other expenses, Sarnia Police say.

After sending money, the victim received a second call seeking more funds to pay a second fine.

Then a man claiming to be the son’s lawyer called and requested legal fees. The victim sent a total of $15,000.

Police say it’s a common scam and advise resident to be wary.
