Sarnia Bay Marina is off limits to the public as city and marina personnel begin repairing major damage done by copper thieves.

Individuals broke into the marina, pried up dock boards and cut out sections of large cables used to service the facility. The damage will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair, Sarnia Police said.

“We have suffered a major theft of wiring which services the marina picnic pavilion and all of the dock lighting, hydro distribution panels and individual boat slip receptacles,” said parks and recreation manager Rob Harwood.

The marina is still expected to reopen May 15 as scheduled, he added.

Police arrested three men and a woman, aged 29 to 51, at the scene on Good Friday. They face break and enter and other charges.

But other individuals broke into the marina again over the Easter weekend and continued stripping wire.

Anyone with info is asked to call Detective Jason Hoover at 519-344-8861, ext. 6147, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
