The closing date on sale of the Bayside Mall lands has been extended.

Seasons Retirement Communities, which is buying the property from the city for $1 million, requested the extension on the closing date from Oct. 15 to Nov. 29.

The delay is needed because the company hasn’t yet reached agreement with Lambton County on a lease for mall space used by government services.

Seasons has said it plans to invest $40 million in downtown commercial and residential development, including a 12-storey retirement home on the mall site.

It also plans to demolish part of the building, open up a pedestrian walkway on Lochiel Street, and create new commercial and retail space.
