With the wheat crop about to be harvested Sarnia Fire and Rescue has issued a temporary fire ban for rural parts of the city.

Because of the current dry conditions residents must first obtain a Rural Burn Permit to burn off brush piles, Fire Chief John Kingyens said last week.

Recreational burning is still allowed, though recreational fires must be supervised at all times and meet the requirement of the city bylaw.

Fires must have no impact on neighbouring properties, and on days when air quality advisories are issued, recreational or cooking fires are banned in both urban and rural areas, the fire department said.
