Sarnians continue to be duped by the CRA scam.
City police recently took a report from a resident who was called by someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.
The victim was told more than $2,000 were owed in back taxes, and if the resident didn’t pay up an arrest warrant would be issued and fines of up to $90,000 imposed.
The frightened victim began paying the scam artist via money order in increments of $2,000. But the time city police were informed the victim had sent $20,000 to an address in the U.S.
If you get such a call, hang up and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
