Rapids swim team off to strong start

Twenty-two swimmers from the Sarnia Rapids swim team got off to a strong start on the new season, bringing home 10 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze medals from the Canada Games Aquatic Center in London.

Twenty-two swimmers from the Sarnia Rapids swim team got off to a strong start on the new season, bringing home 10 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze medals from the Canada Games Aquatic Center in London.

Maude Boily-Dufour, 16, took first place in the 400 metre and 200m individual medley, 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke.  She also earned three silver in the 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Jack Girardi, 11, finished first in the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and the 100m freestyle.  He also placed second in the 50m freestyle, 200m freestyle and third in the 400m freestyle.

Austin Adams, 16, won gold in both 50m and 100m freestyle and placed 2nd in the 400m freestyle.

Jack Biggar, 14, earned bronze in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

Shona Branton, 14, placed second in the 50m breaststroke and won gold in the 100m breaststroke.

Isaac Jones, 11,earned a silver medal in the 50m backstroke.

The following swimmers all swam personal best times: Kylee Atkinson, 10, Acie Burgess, 8, Paetah Burgess, 12, Gabrielle Jones, Maggie Kita, Jack Girardi and Isaac Jones, all 11.

Participating at their first swim meet with the team were: Bella Wright, 10, Madeline Morrison, 15, and Jessie Hillier, 10.
