Most public school students will be required to wear face masks when they return to school this year.

The Lambton Kent District School Board last week updated its Returning to our Schools document.

Students in grades 4 to 12 will be required to wear non-medical or cloth masks indoors, including in hallways and during classes.

Masks are encouraged, but not required, for students in kindergarten to Grade 3.

Senior kindergarten to Grade 8 classes will have a staggered start the first week of school, with schools accepting half their students Sept. 8, and the rest Sept. 9.

They will attend together Sept. 10, with JK beginning Sept. 14.

The high school year is being divided into four blocks of about 44 days of instruction, offering the standard eight courses per year

Parents are required to indicate by Aug. 28 whether their children will receive in-class or electronic instruction, Hughes said.

Parents with questions should contact their child’s school, and visit the LKDSB website regularly for updates: www.lkdsb.net.
