A Slovakian power forward and promising prospect has signed with the Sarnia Sting.

Seventeen-year-old Alex Geci was selected 7th overall by Sarnia at the 2020 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft last month. He committed to the team last week.

“I will give the Sting and the Sarnia community my maximum effort each night to help the team win,” said the 6-foot 2, 176-pound centre. “I cannot wait to come to Sarnia and play in front of all the fans.”

Geci had 31 points last season playing in U20 Slovakian and U18 Finish hockey leagues, the club said. Geci scored a goal and an assist for Slovakia at the 2020 U-17 World Championships.

“We expect Alex to jump into our lineup and contribute right away,” said Sting GM Dylan Seca.

Geci is eligible for the 2021 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the Sting said.
