Police warn of furnace scam

Published on

Sarnia Police advise caution after a man posing as a technician tried to defraud a city women.

The woman received a call, reputedly from a heating company, and made an appointment for a furnace inspection on Feb. 25. When a man arrived at her city centre home he removed the furnace filter, telling the woman a new one would cost $500.

When she objected, he “lowered” the price to $300.

Growing suspicious, the woman declined and the man became angry, but left.

Most furnace filters cost $4 to $20.
