The regional Silver Stick Champion Point Edward U-18LL Black Hawks traveled to Pelham last weekend to compete in the Silver Stick Finals.

“They worked their way to the Saturday night semi-final game against Simcoe with a 3-0-1 record in the seeding round, and sent them packing with a dominant effort to set up a Sunday afternoon final matchup against the Thornton Tigers,” said head coach Derek Jackson.

“Thornton came out flying early with a barrage of offence peppering goaltender Tom Guthrie who was equal to the task keeping his team within striking distance for the entire contest,” Jackson added.

“Veteran Nic Hocking ripped a shot past the Thornton goaltender early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3 and the game would remain tied until the Tigers Carter Nicholson scored with 3:38 remaining in the 3rd to take a 4-3 lead.

“The Tigers didn't look back and held on to win the game and the Championship. The Black Hawks are very proud to be runners up to a very deserving champion Tigers team," he said.
