Wouterus “Ted” Cornelius Vandenberk passed away at age 85 at Bluewater Hospital on April 23, 2024. Reunited with beloved wife and soulmate Wilhelmina Veeke Vandenberk and his granddaughter Ginny Marie Vandenberk.

Ted was born in the Netherlands and came to Canada at age of 12, post WWII. The war had a lasting impression that freedom came with a cost, making him a strong advocate to exercise his right to vote.

Loving father of David (Kelly), Don (Lana) Vandenberk, Debby (John) McLeod, and Janet (Steve) Robertson. Cherished Opa to Corey, Colton, Caleb Vandenberk, Joel (Amy), Riley McLeod, Thomas and Kevin Robertson.

Treasured Great Opa to Marcadies, Macesion, Abel, Julia and Jasmine and GG Opa to Kingsley. Dear brother to William (Toni) Vandenberk and Martin (Lia) Vandenberk. Sisters Mary Verheyen and Jane (Joe) Klunder and sister in laws Louise Vandenberk, Martina Veeke and Eileen Veeke. Preceded by his parents Wilhelmus and Clazina Vandenberk. Brothers Joe and Cor Vandenberk. Brother and sister in laws Andy Veeke, Neil Veeke, Martin Vereyken, and Frank Veheyen, Jean Vandenberk and Cathy Vereyken.

Ted was a truck driver through and through. He loved the adventure of the road and meeting new people. He was known for his quick wit and storytelling to family and friends. Card games of euchre brought lots of debates and loud discussion to the Vandenberk household. Passionate about gardening and bringing vegetables to his children brought great pride to Ted. Fishing allowed him to ponder life and spend one on one time with his wife, children and grandchildren. In his retirement years Ted found joy in cooking, woodworking, watching soccer, daytime drama t.v. and a hate for household cleaning.

Cremation has taken place. An Open House will be held at the Smith Family Centre (in front of Smith Funeral Home), 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Words of tribute will be spoken at 3:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation and Kidney Foundation of Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
