Peacefully and with her family by her side, Pauline Grace Kirkland passed away at Trillium Villa on March 22, 2024 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her beloved husband Dick (2015), she is survived by her children Clarke (Chuck), Karen, Tom (Deb), Ted (Lori), and grandchildren Kate (Kyle), Michael (Nicole), Annie (Chris), Lindsay, Brooke, and great-grandson Drew. Pauline is also survived by her sisters Marg Scott and Doris Williams and many nieces and nephews. Pauline was born in Sarnia on September 11, 1931 and was the third child born to Bruce (1976) and Mae (1988) Armstrong. She was predeceased by her infant brother Thomas (1927) and sister Mary Jean Milner (1986). Pauline married the love of her life, Dick Kirkland, in 1952 and moved to Point Edward where they purchased a lot and built the home in which she lived until her move to Trillium Villa. There she raised her family and was always proud to support her husband Dick in his role as mayor of The Village. Before having children, Pauline worked at the Carruthers Clinic and often said that if she’d had a career outside the home she would have liked to have been a nurse. For several years, Pauline volunteered in the gift shop at Sarnia General Hospital. Pauline was devoted to and protective of her family. She was a loving and hard-working mother and an epic ever-attentive grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to attend sporting and other events, bake goodies, knit beautiful sweaters (and orange tuques) and have chats. Pauline was proud to reach her 90th birthday as her mother had before her and to become a great-grandmother to Drew. She was a member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club where she curled and enjoyed luncheons with a special group of friends for many years. Pauline was an avid gardener and her gardens were admired by many. She enjoyed trips to Aston Villa in Bracebridge with friends during the summer and years later going to the family cottage. She was a member of the Point Edward Presbyterian Church and will surely be missed by her friends there. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at Trillium Villa for their care and support of Pauline for the past 2 1/2 years. Leaving her home of 69 years in Point Edward was difficult for Pauline and the staff went above and beyond to meet her needs. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Your kind memorial remembrances may be made to Point Edward Presbyterian Church or to the Huntington Society of Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please).
