Daniel Nikandrov has been named team captain of the Sarnia Sting this season.

The club made the announcement Thursday, one day before its league and home opener against the Erie Otters on Friday night.

The 20-year-old from Markham was second in team scoring last season with 16 goals and 49 points in 68 games.

Jakob Chychrun, Josh Jacobs, Brandon Lindberg and Alex Black have named assistants.

“As a staff, we feel that we have a really strong leadership group moving forward,” Sting Head Coach Derian Hatcher said in a release.

“These guys come to the rink every day, ready to work, and with a positive attitude. We have set high standards and expectations for our players both on and off the ice. We’re going to lean on this leadership group to hold their teammates accountable, and ensure that everyone is working towards the high expectations that we’ve set.”

The puck will drop on a new season just after 7 p.m. at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
