Organizers with the Bluewater Flag Football League say they’ve recovered the youth jerseys that were reported stolen over the weekend.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the incredible Sarnia Community and everyone who contributed to the search efforts,” the organization said in a Facebook post, Monday. “A special shoutout to the dedicated Sarnia Police and all the community members who assisted in the search.

“Your support and collaboration made all the difference.”

The club had previously posted that more than 100 local youth would have been impacted following the theft of team jerseys for the Bluewater Flag Football League, which is set to launch its spring youth season.

The jerseys, which were purchased for the entire league, had a value of $7000 and would have caused a significant financial burden to replace for the youth league, police said.

Sarnia Police said a package was stolen from the front porch of a residence in the area of Mackenzie Street N., and Durand Street, during the early evening hours on April 6.

In an update this week, police stated: "Thankfully, on April 8, 2024, a citizen, who was aware of this theft after reading the police media release, located a discarded box near an apartment building on London Road. The box contained the football jerseys and the citizen contacted the Sarnia Police Service."
