Local firefighter sets FireFit record

The assistant coach of the FireFit team at Lambton College set a world record in the individual competition at the Scott FireFit Regional Challenge in Ingersoll earlier this month. Ian Van Reenen clocked a time of 1:12.

The assistant coach of the FireFit team at Lambton College set a world record in the individual competition at the Scott FireFit Regional Challenge in Ingersoll earlier this month.

Ian Van Reenen clocked a time of 1:12.29, beating his closest competitor by more than eight seconds.

Van Reenen, a volunteer firefighter with the Point Edward Fire Service, and his Lambton team will be competing closer to home this weekend at the Western Ontario FireFit Challenge in Point Edward.

The competition takes place Waterfront Park in the parking lot off Livingston Street, beginning 11 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
