The Sarnia Lawn Bowling Club launched its 110th year of operation with the first tournament of the season on Victoria Day.

Twenty-two teams with 44 bowlers from across Southwestern Ontario took to the greens for the Mott Memorial Open Pairs Tournament.

When the final bowls came to rest, Sarnia veterans Bob and Cecelia Machan were in top spot.

Coincidentally, Machan was recently honored with the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association for his contributions to the game locally and provincially over more than 60 years.

Second place went to Lyle Mix and Everett Zwiers, of London.

Craig Dorey and Ron Whitehead of Sarnia were third.
