A 42-year-old man from Lambton Shores faces several charges after a stolen truck was reported to police Wednesday morning.

Sarnia Police say the incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the individual gained access to the inside of a garage in the 1900 block of Lakeshore Road.

“The accused used a device that enabled him to start the pickup truck,” a Sarnia Police news release noted, adding that the homeowner arrived to find the garage door open, and the truck travelling eastbound on Lakeshore.

“The homeowner followed the vehicle and called the police who were able to locate the stolen vehicle travelling at high rates of speed in the area of Airport Road and the 402 Highway.”

The stolen vehicle made its way to London Line, running red lights and almost causing a collision, police said, adding that the truck then struck a curb and came to a stop, allowing police to pin the vehicle so it would not drive away.

“The driver then jumped out of the vehicle and began to run from police but was ultimately caught and taken into custody without further incident.”

A search of the accused also located a baggie of suspected crystal meth.

The man was held for a bail hearing and currently remains in custody.

He faces charges of motor vehicle theft; dangerous operation of a vehicle; possession of stolen property over $5,000; drug possession; and failure to remain.
