Residents might notice increased vehicle traffic and stack flaring at Imperial Oil over the next several weeks as a planned maintenance shutdown continues.

The work will see individual units coming off-line and restarting at various times, which allows for detailed equipment inspection and upgrades, said Kristina Zimmer, manager of public & government affairs.

The project is supported by a peak contractor labour force of about 750 skilled tradespeople.

When possible, steps will be taken to minimize the use of flaring, which will be intermittent, Zimmer said.
