More than 500 cyclists have registered for the Bluewater International Granfondo, meaning the July 31 event has sold out.

More than half the participants are Lambton County residents, with others coming from parts of Ontario and Michigan, British Columbia, Quebec, Georgia and New Jersey.

"What started as a vision for Sarnia-Lambton has now become a reality and we are ecstatic about it,” said event chair Kenneth MacAlpine.

The Granfondo features a start and finish line at Mike Weir Park and offers participants cycling routes of 50, 100 and 150 kilometres.

Proceeds are supporting St. Joseph's Hospice and Palliative Care at Bluewater Health.

About 100 volunteers will be on hand to help out, and local residents are invited to join the after party at the park from 12 noon to 4 p.m. featuring live music, food and craft beer.
