Harness racing returning to Hiawatha

Hiawatha Horse Park will offer 21 live race dates on Thursdays and Saturdays starting June 28, the Ontario Racing Commission has announced.

The number of dates is the third lowest awarded among 12 Ontario tracks awarded racing so far, but they give Sarnia-area residents another entertainment option this summer.

Post time is 6:30 p.m. and the final night of racing is Saturday, Sept. 6.

Hiawatha began searching for new attractions two years ago after Ontario closed Hiawatha Slot, a profitable gaming venue that helped subsidize racing purses.

The facility had added F1 Karting, a driving range, beach volleyball courts and baseball diamonds.
