The province is about to begin repair work on Highway 402 overpasses in Sarnia, and that means detours for motorists this summer.

Work is expected to begin next week on the Front Street overpass and last until mid-November.

Eastbound commercial traffic on the highway will be diverted to Front Street, across the intersection, and back on the highway downstream of construction.

Traffic signals will be adjusted, and during the later stages of the work Front Street lanes might need to be blocked, according to a city staff report.

Work will also begin on the Waterworks Road underpass next week.

A detour will direct traffic, starting at London Line and Waterworks, east to Mandaumin and north on Mandaumin to Lakeshore, then west on Lakeshore to Waterworks.

Work will begin on the Blackwell Side Road underpass in early July.

A detour will direct traffic, beginning at London Line and Blackwell Side Road, north on Modeland to Lakeshore, and east on Lakeshore to Blackwell.

Signs will be set up a few weeks in advance advising of the closures.

The city says it will monitor complaints from residents and make adjustments as required.
