Fake U.S. money circulating

Sarnia Police are advising residents use caution when handling U.S. currency after a local business was stung by some obviously counterfeit bills. The back of a counterfeit U.S. $20 bill that was accepted as genuine by a local business.

The business accepted an undisclosed amount of the funny money and deposited it at the bank.

The bank recognized the fakes, contacted the business, and that business is now out the funds, said media officer Const. Giovanni Sottosanti.

“Unfortunately, this could have been avoided if more time was taken to look over the bills before they were accepted,” he said.

“Just by reading the top of the $20 bill it is clear that these are fakes."
